Shooting around Gifford, East Lothian |
|
East Lothian has a long history in country sports. With many private estates and country houses and the Lammermuir Hills as a backdrop, hunting, shooting and fishing have played a part in the culture and history of the area for hundreds of years. Clay pigeon shooting is popular as is archery, and game shooting or 'rough' shooting for a range of wild game such as rabbits, grouse, duck, pheasants, partridges and wood pigeon.
Traditional outdoor pursuits combine with more modern events such as paintball, quad bikes and off road adventures to provide an environment of contemporary country life. Corporate and group events are catered for with professional tuition, safety advice and all equipment provided. All country sports are available a short distance from Gifford and the Tweeddale Arms Hotel provides the perfect base for a shooting trip.

Most of the shooting days are centred around private country estates and houses such as Lennoxlove House, home of the Duke of Hamilton, where clay pigeon shooting is popular. Winton House is another fine stately home and country estate for game and clay shooting.
Addiston Lodge offers clays, field targets, and game shooting and also paintball, excellent fun for group events, and Mavis Hall Park adds quad bikes and off-road driving to its clay shooting adventures. Arniston Country Archery and Clays, as the name suggests, specialise in traditional country sports, offering tuition, bows, clays, and guns as required.

Whatever your experience of shooting, you will be guided through the process by trained professionals. Tuition is provided as a group or one to one ensuring you have a safe and exhilarating experience.
After your day in the hills, what better way to recount your tales of a historic country pastime than to relax in the bar in the Tweeddale Arms over a fine malt or ale.
